Mansfield Wildlife Shelter & Rescue Inc. is a non-profit organisation in Barwite, North-East Victoria, dealing with injured and orphaned wildlife.  It commenced operation in 1999 and became an incorporated body on 27th March 2003, licensed through the Department of Sustainability & Environment.  It is not government funded and is totally dependent on volunteers, community support and donations, with no paid staff.  Our aim is to rescue, rehabilitate, release and educate the community on native wildlife. The area covered for rescues is approximately 6,500 sq km in North-East Victoria and encompasses two alpine resorts, national parks and state forests, a region which is a known habitat to nine of Victoria’s endangered species.  The Shire of Mansfield is the second highest visited tourist area in Victoria.  The Department of Sustainability & Environment Response Officer, who is responsible for native animals, is based at Shepparton which is 120km away and the nearest RSPCA Officer is located at Wangaratta which is 110km away. The shelter currently responds to approximately 500 rescues a year and presently have 56 animals in care, being , kangaroos, wombats, eagles,  kookaburras and sugar gluiders all of which it is hoped will be able to be returned back into their natural habitat as soon as possible.

Role of the Mansfield Wildlife Shelter & Rescue Inc:

– Maintain and operate a 24hr/day rescue call-out service in the north-east of Victoria.

– Provide 24hr/day care for sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife.
– Provide community involvement and education.
– Raise awareness to the community about flora and fauna issue.
